- Text of Complaint by Dr Sharad Iyengar
I am a medical doctor and senior citizen (63 years). On 27 July 2024, 3.30 pm, I alighted from a car at Mumbai T1 departure to arrange a wheelchair for my mother who is 91 years old. The Indigo staff next to the road asked me to go to the counter. As I turned to get on to the pavement, my face crashed into a transparent glass partition (about 5 feet high) that was NOT clearly VISIBLE and I suffered injury to the bridge of my nose, jaw and head leading to internal bleeding and later, a severe headache. Indigo staff helped me reach the medical care room where I was given first aid. This glass partition is a hazard — it is not distinctly visible — it prevents passengers from getting on to the footpath and serves as an obstacle to passenger movement. Delhi airport has partitions, but they have been installed away from the road and do not pose a hazard, they are clearly visible. Please do not force passengers to walk on the road with luggage dodging cars — let them access the footpath immediately on alighting from a car. Whatever the justification or need, it is clear that these partitions have been poorly designed and installed without a thought for safety by the airport authorities.
