Delayed immigration, baggage recheck, security resulting missing connection flight

Hi
I was travelling on Dec 26th from SFO -> Mumbai and there was a connective flight to Chennai in about 2.30 hrs. The immigration took 45 mins for US citizen, then the customs and baggage recheck took aruond 40 mins, security and gates from sprinting took 40 mins(multiple security checks instead of one) and I missed my flight. Why don’t mumbai allow a streamlined baggage transfer like New York which happened in 15 mins and the security took about 30 mins to streamline it better.
