- Text of Complaint by Maliakkal Martin Anthony
We (myself and my wife and my son) boarded the Vistara Flight no. UK 255 on 09.1.24 at approx. 9.45 PM (Please note that the flight UK 255 was already 30 minutes delayed from the original departure time of 21.40 and the new departure time was 22.10) after reaching our allocated seat number of 18A , 18B and 18C, (boarding pass detail attached as image) my son and myself had kept our overhead cabin baggage and after about 10 min later my son happen to see another person of Mongolian /Chinese ethnicity/ feature keeping one of our cabin bag back to the overhead cabin of row number 19 and was seated there. (Even though we had initially seen this was person/suspect, at the time we entered the aircraft ,sitting at the Premium Economy seat row number 6). At this, my son re-affirmed that the location of our cabin baggage has moved, and the stated person has done it. (While we were in discussion at that time the stated person-suspect had swiftly moved away, was standing near the lavatory located at the rear end of the flight watching us) as soon as he realized that we were discussing he started to move toward the premium economy area and had asked one of the air-hostess where his seat was according to his boarding pass and when he reached near us and I ask him why he had touched our cabin bag to this he aggressively shouted said “Check Me! Check Me!” and without stopping he moved forward.
When I checked my bag, I realized that my INR 50,000/- (INR 500 x 100) bunch of rupees was MISSING from my bag, and I immediately reported the same to the cabin crew present in the aircraft then. After this a few more cabin crew approached me and asked for the incident information and went back. Later, one of the crew members came and told me that they cannot ask or do anything with the suspect person, and we need to board out of the flight and lodge a complaint with the police and then they would do the needful. The ground security staff also said the same thing as the crews stated. I then asked them to call the police and requested them to do the needful but neither the crew nor ground security WILL NOT do anything about it. We then were told to move out of the boarded flight to the aero bridge along with our cabin luggage and the suspect person was also called out and he had come out without anything in his hand. The airport ground security members had asked him two or three times if he had any cabin luggage to this, he always said he did not have any. But later, one of the cabin crew came up with cabin luggage (a backpack) which was not claimed by anyone inside the aircraft to this he then stated that luggage belongs to him. After a while, it was understood that he also carried a white Nike Shopping Bag. This raised our suspicion about him.
The ground security asked me if I would lodge the complaint and they will bring the suspect along with us then the police would do the needful. To this I asked what about the flight? The ground security guy surprisingly replied that the flight would take off without us and we needed to re-book another flight and we need to bear all the expense and Vistara crew stated that they would not bear any expense to this either.
There is no sense in going after claiming INR 50,000/- at the expense of additional stay in Mumbai and by purchasing 3 new air tickets to from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi again which would cost together more than INR 75,000/- in total. So, I told the security and Vistara crew that I would board the same flight as it was not worth the stay. After this we reboarded the same flight and the ground security and the Vistara crew took photos of our passport and boarding pass and also our contact number details and said the relevant authority will contact us (As of now, no one has got back to us). After this the suspect person was escorted away from the flight along with one police back to Terminal T2.
But the fact remains that I lost INR 50,000/- by pure robbery/stealing inside the boarded flight and the relevant authority of T2 terminal and Vistara crew Remained Useless and claimed no responsibility to the entire incident and the flight was delayed for more than an hour which is utter shame as other passengers on-board too were agitated about this.
I would expect you to take up the matter seriously and do the needful and help us to get back the lost money
