Asking for confidential information

During the immigration, there was a young lad who asked me for my confidential details. This isn’t the first time I am travelling to india. I have travelled many times and I wasn’t ask my confidential details. I was asked to provide my passport, boarding pass and my visa details which I had. Additionally I was asked what’s my purpose to which I responded to it. But then I was asked to show my offer letter as well of my work which is quite confidential. This was not expected from him. Just because one works in immigration does not mean he or she has the right for asking confidential information. This IS WRONG! Not good ! WHAT A SHAME ON YOU GUYS ! No immigration in other countries ask for such details. Isn’t the visa just enough ? If you care for INDIANS I request you to please reconcile your process.
