This is to bring to your immediate notice/action , that during my security check today (29th June 2024 ) around 8:30 AM at Terminal 2 at Chatrapati Shivaji International Mumbai Airport, I was pointed out by the security person deputed for physical scanning that I was carrying a small kirpan and that I was supposed to enter the security check zone from a “seperately assigned area.”
When I asked the personal about this new instruction whether it is already available at the website or if at all is it mentioned along with the boarding pass ?
For which I didn’t get any response.
Post this conversation he called another security guy and sent him to accompany me till the barrier entrance of my boarding gate area.
On asked upon, he replied I have to follow this person now, and no further explanation was provided.
This is for the very first time that someone from the security has accompanied me .. just because I was carrying the Kirpan.
I consider this episode very upsetting not only for me but for the whole Sikh Community.
This kind of treatment was literally not expected from the airport security and has disturbed me alot forcing me to think over the freedom of movement for Sikhs and might have damaging impact on the fundamental rights for Sikh community .
I’m well aware of the rights and court orders regarding the carrying of kirpan .. my kirpan was well in the range of the instructions provided less than 9″ for the whole kirpan.
This security person had no right to question me and make me accompany a security personal , defying direct orders from the Courts of India .
I strongly recommend you to take strict actions for the same.
This is my request to the airport authorities to conduct indepth investigation of this incident and respond back with the outcome of this investigation with complete clarification taking necessary actions.
