Before immigration, there is a scanner for security checks. Before putting the luggage in the scanners, the security personnel asks the passengers to take out all cables, cameras, lenses, chargers, laptops, power banks, tablets and mobile phones from the carry-on luggage and put in a tray for security check. Almost all other international airports have scanning systems but there the security personnel do not ask passengers to take out these things. Why can’t we have such scanners/systems installed at the Mumbai airport? Security personnel should ask to open baggage if the scanners identify the threat in the bag instead of asking every passenger to open their baggage. This will lead to short queues and save time for all. Passengers who do not have anything harmful in their baggage will pass without any delay. Nobody likes to open their baggage in front of others, it’s a privacy issue as well. It would be appreciated if better scanners were installed instead of causing inconvenience to our genuine frequent flyers.
