Subject: Racket being run on Terminal 2, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport, under Adani airports by 10-15 criminals (Gunde).

Reference: My visit to Terminal 2, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport, under Adani airports on 04.07.2024.

Sir,

I am a senior citizen, aged about 69 years and I would like to bring to your notice the criminal activities going on at terminal 2, Mumbai airport of which I and my wife, aged about 66 years along with my son became a victim on 04.07.2024.

On 04.07.2024, I arrived at terminal 2 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport, under Adani airports and took the lift and came on the upper floor of terminal 2 where there is a pick up point and approximately thousand or more vehicles pick up and drop thousands of people which include private vehicles and taxis. My son came to pick me and my wife at the pick up and drop point on the upper floor. We kept our luggage in the car and started moving towards the exit. Out of 10 other vehicles around us, our car was particularly stopped by 5 men. One man with a vehicle lock that is put on the tyre and 4 other men, all of them in civil clothes and no uniform. They stopped us by way of surrounding our car and asked us to pay them Rs.270/- cash as parking charges. We asked them under what authority are they demanding this amount and why are they not stopping other cars? In reply to this they told us to not to ask questions and pay the money and leave in a threatening language and tone. We asked them to call their supervisor or some airport authority but they did not call anyone or give any valid explanation for their demand and kept threatening us to pay the money and kept our car surrounded. They were constantly threatening us and kept saying that we won’t let you move and will put the tyre lock on our vehicle’s tyre. After all these threats they forcibly took the money from us and suddenly started hurling abuses at my son asking him to get out of there and said that they are influential and dangerous people and that they would find us and harm us if we complain against them. After this we stopped our vehicle a little further and dialled 100 to complain. My son received a call from Sahar Police station from mobile no. +917977558620 stating that he is ASI and there is no beat marshall available and they cannot send anyone. After this we were left with no alternative but to leave the airport. We again received a call from the same mobile no. +917977558620 and the ASI asked us to come to the police station and file the complaint. We told him to come to the airport and catch hold of the criminals who are present here on the airport but they refused. We also sent the copy of receipt given to us by the criminals (gunde) and pictures of 2 of the 5 men on the ASI’s mobile no. +917977558620 but no response was received.

I hereby would like to state that this is absolutely no way of looting money especially on an international airport in a city like Mumbai. Even if there are any charges, there should be a system and not criminals (gunde) for collecting money from whoever they like. This is an open crime taking place at terminal 2, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport, under Adani airports and if this does not stop, soon these criminals (gunde) might start showing weapons and demanding money. Soon there might be 20 men standing and surrounding cars. There were 2 other security men standing a little further from criminals (gunde), when we asked them who these men are, they said they do not know who they are.

This is a major concern where senior citizens, ladies, kids are being stopped, surrounded and threatened in broad daylight and being looted at an airport. Nothing can be more shameful than this in a city like Mumbai.
