I flew AI from Mumbai to JFK, NY on Dec 3rd , flight AI 119, that departed around 1.45 am.
At the ticketing counter of business class, I was approached by a uniformed lady who told me I was selected for a random check of my luggage. I followed her with my bags to some screening area and as nothing objectionable was seen, returned to the ticketing counter. the lady asked me if I was taking some utensils and I said “yes” . My bags were checked in and got my boarding pass and I proceeded for immigration.
The uniformed lady told me that my bags would be checked in again and she would be doing that herself. I did not much care about it as I had nothing objectionable.
After returning, I realized that a box of expensive costume jewelry that I had purchased from Pernia’s Pop Up store and had put the box in one of my checked bags, is missing. I am very upset about this. I have the receipt and the approximate value of that wa around Rs 30,000.
I also vaguely remember that the flight took off late as they said the luggage was still being loaded. Also, as a coincidence, ay NY airport, as the luggage stated coming out, my bags were amongst the first to come , which I assume was because, somebody had opened my bags and taken their time to look through the stuff.
I would like the authorities to investigate and compensate me for my loss . Until now, I had only heard about such thefts, but now I experienced it.
