My daughter Mrs Radhika Desai Turner and her 2 year old son Suneel Turner flew into india from Portland, Oregon (USA) to Mumbai by British Airways flight BA 135 -Business Class, on February 8th. Her connection was in London, Heathrow. When in immigration line she realized that her baby’s passport was with her, but her own passport was missing. She had her OCI booklet in her hand and a clear and legible photo of her passport pages on her iPhone. The immigration declined them entry in India. They said they sent someone to the plane to check for the passport on the plane. Immigration people completely ignored her and when finally attended, treated them like criminals. The people were rude, cold and gave our daughter and grandson dog like treatment. Instead of being compassionate and empathetic towards a helpless young woman and her baby, the immigration personnel insulted her, treated her very badly. We agree that they were doing their job, but while doing the job they could have shown some sympathy to a sobbing young woman and her baby. Instead, they put her on a flight back to London and to USA. After traveling for 24+ hours, she had to travel back another 36 hours with her 2 year old baby. So, when you are in power you lose compassion and basic humanity? How sad and pathetic. She will never forget her horrible experience and the ordeal she had to face at Mumbai airport. Loosing passport is not a crime, it’s an honest mistake. Can’t you be a bit empathetic?
She was in the immigration for 6 hours before being sent back and we parents were outside for 6 hours, helplessly trying to help her. I had my passport and OCI card, but they wouldn’t let us go inside to help our daughter. Our daughter had to face horrible treatment and nothing can be done now but I hope at least someone in authority reads this and tries to help future passengers facing similar problems.
